THE SOUL BEHIND THE BRAND
In 2020, in the midst of a pandemic & life changes, I decided to take a leap into candle making. I literally woke up one day and said to myself “I’m going to start a business,” not knowing my real reason on “why” I wanted to start it, no clue on how I was going to start it, wasn’t sure where I was going to start it, just going with the thought in my head. I found candle making to be very therapeutic and calmed my anxiety throughout the day. Once I launched my business, I didn’t know anything about building websites, social media content, finding my audience, or even how I was about to sell my candles. I just knew that I had a LLC and I was just going to run with it. Fast forward two months later after launching my business, I found out I was pregnant. At a point of time, I started to stomach the smell & could no longer make candles. Fast forward to 2021, I wanted to jump right back to making candles after having my son but I wanted to devote all of my precious time to him. I figured if I took the year off, I could re-launch my business when the time was right. Here came 2022, and the time was right then & there to get back up & running. I feel that in 2021, I was humble but going into 2022, I was hungry. The drive to be successful shifted, took my motivation up a notch, sleepless nights of research. As I was testing out my batches of candles, I realized the importance of candle making. I also realized not only did I know how to make a nice quality candle, but the fragrance just puts the icing on the cake. I found my formula to candle making and it has took my candle journey to a whole other level! I then took the time to research how to market my business, target my audience, engage with my audience, and till this day, I am still learning. Everyday is a learning experience and that’s what I love so much about candle making. I then, started to venture out and explore more products I can add to my line because everyone isn't a candle fan; folks (including myself) love a good wax melt and room spray too. So, boom. Added wax melts and room sprays to the line two weeks after relaunching my business. The path to success continues to level up and I'm certainly enjoying the ride. It has never been just about sales when it comes to my brand. Yes, the sales are important, the sales are going to come and grow but sales are not what’s going to make me become a successful business owner; consistency is. And most importantly, amazing customer service. I am a firm advocate of "Black-owned business with exceptional customer service." Believe it or not, customer service says a lot about a brand and Soul Scentsational is extremely heavy on delivering that customer service that everyone deserves. It's amazing supporting other small black-owned business, and being apart of a community that's supporting one another. I love to see it. ♡
